Mad Labs mod:  A Los Angeles company specialized in modifying newer Neve consoles.  The mods were very expensive, but many of the local studios had them done.  There was apparently a channel mod, as well as a master section mod that made a big improvement to a weak point in the VR design.  We are talking about the channel mod only.

The console we are parting out had some of it's modules modded and we have noted the changes.  The mod consists of op amp replacement of key parts in the module.  It makes the sound a little less aggressive, and provides a tiny bit more headroom.  If you are looking for a sound on the hi-fi side, for maybe vocals or a whole mix, the modded module would be better.  If you are looking for more aggressive drum and guitar tones or Distressor type compression, the stock module would be fine.  

In my listening tests difference is fairly subtle, most noticeable with extreme settings.  I wouldn't worry too much about it one way or another.
