Desert Island Audio™

With a circuit design based on the revered Ampex™ 351 preamps, the Desert Island Tube Pre combines this classic circuit with a legendary UTC Linear Standard input transformer.

Made more than 25 years ago, the United Transformer Company™ was at the apex of audio transformer design and manufacturing.  These old transformers fetch $400 and up in online auctions because of their unmatched sound.  Rated for +21db at the input, you can plug a line input into this mic preamp without saturating the transformer (although you’ll saturate the tube for sure, which may or may not be what you want).  And the frequency response is +/- 1db from 10hz to 25khz.

Users have been raving about this one - it has a classic sound, but in many ways is better than the classics.  It’s a balanced sound, with solid lows and an equal amount of detail on the top end.

The mono preamp features a DI input, stepped gain attenuator, NOS tubes, selectable phantom power, and an external power supply (not shown).

Made to order, delivery approx. 8 weeks.
